W opracowaniu przedstawiono pojęcie ryzyka katastrofalnego i pogodowego. Zwrócono uwagę, że katastrofalne i pogodowe instrumenty pochodne są interesującą propozycją dla inwestorów ze względu na możliwość dywersyfikacji portfela. Dokonano charakterystyki catastrophic derivatives z podziałem na: obligacje katastrofalne, kontrakty terminowe i opcje katastrofalne, swapy katastrofalne.
