Abstrakty

Po II wojnie światowej głównym inwestorem zagranicą były firmy amerykańskie. W pierwszych latach powojennych ich udział w całkowitych zagranicznych inwestycjach w gospodarce kapitalistycznej wynosił ok. 90%. Jednakże, w miarę postępów w odbudowie i rekonstrukcji zniszczonej pożogą wojenną gospodarki krajów europejskich i Japonii, wzrosła zagraniczna działalność inwestycyjna firm tych krajów. Od lat pięćdziesiątych, a w szczególności sześćdziesiątych, zaznaczył się wyraźny spadek udziału firm amerykańskich w kapitalistycznych inwestycjach zagranicznych. W latach 1950-1955 wynosił on średnio 78%, w latach 1962-1964 - 59%, zaś w r. 1975 już: tylko 48,4%. (fragment tekstu)

The period after World War II in the economy of West European countries has been characterized by domination of American capital. A basic form of American penetration in Europe consisted in productive investment, in result of which hundreds and thousands of subsidiaries of American companies emerged. Contrary to many fears and anxieties, this expansion has brought Western Europe a considerable benefit, in final account. Europe fast recovered from war devastation and stimulated economic dynamics due to recovered American capitals and American technology. American companies transferred the newest technology since the subsidiaries developed first of all in the branches displaying the highest technological level. West European countries were soon in position to compete with the Americans in the world markets. In the 80-ties, European companies were able to enter the American economy - in the extent surpassing actually the American productive potential in Europe. In a sense, the European disciple has overtaken the American master. (original abstract)
