The idea of foundation and activities of the European Packaging Institute were described. The decision to found the European Packaging Institute was made on May 10, 1999 on the occasion of the Interpack in Dusseldorf. Aims and tasks of the European Packaging Institute were described in detail, too. The members of EPI are more than 20 packaging associations, institutes and faculty of universities which have joined the institute. (original abstract)

W pracy opisano idee założenia i działalność European Packaging Institute powstałego w maju 2010 roku. Decyzja o powstaniu instytutu została podjęta podczas 15-th International Fair for Packaging Machinery, Packaging and Confectionary Machinery - the Interpack 1999. W chwili obecnej do tej instytucji należy ponad 20 towarzystw, instytutów i wydziałów uniwersyteckich z różnych krajów Europy. W pracy przedstawiono również cele oraz zadania stojące przed instytutem. (abstrakt oryginalny)
