Celem omówionych w artykule badań była próba określenia wzajemnego stosunku części hydrofilowej do hydrofobowej w cząsteczce Ukanili na stopień rozkładu biodegradacyjnego.

The degree of biodégradation of the selected non-ionic surfactants was studied. The following ethoxylated alcohols have been tested: R - O(CH₂-CH₂-O)_n, where 1 = C₁₄H₂₉- and N = 2, 3, 7, 9, 19, 25 under the brand name of Ukanil 19, 25, 43, 69, 100, 102, 105, and alcohols with n = 7, the number of C in the radical being 14, 10, 7 (Ukanil 43, 64. 50). The river water test was used (the Vistula river). The degree of surfactant decay in the tested samples was determined by means of surfactant methods. It has been stated that the surface activity of a surfactant and the degree of its biodégradation decrease as the molecule polarity increases. Also the increase in the distance between the polar group and the end of the hydrophobic chain accelerates the initial biodegradation. (original abstract)
