Omówiono zjawisko bezrobocie oraz jego przyczyni i skutki. Przedstawiono program przeciwdziałaniu bezrobociu.
In the present paper the author has attempted to describe a pheno-menon of unemployment in the Kraków Province in the 1.01.-17.10.1990 period. In the first part which deals with the size of unemployment the author has presented the shaping of that phenomenon in the Kraków Province analyzing the problems pertaining to it against the backgrou-nd the problems pertaining to it against the background of the whole country. In the second part the author has discussed the causes of unemployment mentioning, among others, production slump, excessive and irra-tional employment in the past, readiness to take a job on the part of people who never worked but first of all the process of restructuring of the Polish economy. The author has also discussed the conseguencies of unemployment and in particular social, economic and political ones - the last ones con-sidered to be an important factor of success of economic reforms. In the finał part the author has named several methods of fighting with unemployment stressing the need for the increased economic acti-vity on the part of the society and the necessity of production growth stimulation. Final conclusions are presented at the end of the article.(original abstract)
