In the Apulia Region, Italy, there has been an impressive development of renewables, in particular wind and photovoltaic, driven by the regional and national energy policy. In the Apulia region most of the primary energy come from fossil fuels, in particular coal, a situation quite similar to that of Poland, but a regional energy policy is driving the decarbonisation of the energy industry and is stimulating the use of sun and wind in wind farms and thermal and photovoltaic installations. In this paper, which is part of studies extracted from an ongoing research project financed by the Apulia region, the development of renewable energy in the region, due to the implementation of a series of incentives, is illustrated and compared with the Polish situation to point out some possible ways to overcome the environmental concerns related to fossils and to guarantee, on the other side, the transition to a "fossil-free" economic system. W regionie Apulia (Włochy) nastąpił imponujący rozwój odnawialnych źródeł energii, w szczególności wiatru oraz ogniw fotowoltaicznych, napędzany przez regionalną i krajową politykę energetyczną. W regionie Apulia, podobnie jak w Polsce większość energii pochodzi z paliw kopalnych, a w szczególności z węgla. W niniejszej pracy, która jest częścią projektu badawczego finansowanego przez region Apulia, został przedstawiony rozwój odnawialnych źródeł energii w regionie poprzez porównanie z sytuacją w Polsce, w celu wskazania możliwości przezwyciężenia problemów ochrony środowiska związanych z paliwami kopalnymi oraz znalezienia drogi przejścia do odnawialnych źródeł.
