Abstrakty

Polityka RFN winna w Polsce skłaniać przede wszystkim do optymizmu co do rozwoju stosunków z Niemcami. Zasadniczą przesłanką tego optymizmu jest jednak nie tylko to, że te stosunki są dzisiaj tak dobre, ale przede wszystkim to, że kształtują się one na podstawie nowej geopolitycznej konfiguracji. Dawna teza Krzysztofa Skubiszewskiego o "polsko-niemieckiej wspólnocie" interesów, mimo nieuchronnych niekiedy napięć we wzajemnych stosunkach, znajduje w dużym stopniu potwierdzenie. (...) Polska i Niemcy nie mogą się dzisiaj zadowalać dobrymi stosunkami ani sukcesem procesu pojednania. Skoro dobre stosunki są wynikiem nie tylko dwustronnych zabiegów, lecz także zasadniczych zmian geopolitycznych na kontynencie, te właśnie winny być przedmiotem intensywnych debat oraz uświadamiane obu opiniom publicznym. Obecny zaś kryzys, choć sam w sobie niebezpieczny i niepokojący oraz zapowiadający się na co najmniej najbliższą dekadę, zdaje się bardziej sprzyjać zacieśnianiu się stosunków polsko-niemieckich, niż je utrudniać. Following the collapse of the Soviet bloc and German unification, both Poland and Germany found themselves in a new geopolitical situation. And this is the prime factor-not just the bilateral process of reconciliation - underlying the fundamental change in mutual relations, which now should be described as good, or even very good. The one-time assertion about a "Polish-German community of interests", formulated by Polish Foreign Minister Krzysztof Skubiszewski, is largely alive and well today, even despite the unavoidable tensions in two-way relations. Having scored a shared success, though, Poland and Germany must not rest on the laurels. Given that the good relations came as a result of not only bilateral efforts, but also of thorough geopolitical changes on the continent, these relations should all the more become the subject of intense debates and their outcome should be brought home to both publics who still stick to various negative stereotypes. The present European crisis - although dangerous and worrying in itself - seems to be pushing the Polish-German relations towards a further tightening, rather than obstructing them.
