This paper refers to a broader research on composite indicators of economic activity for Poland, which was started in 1994 and has been continued in the Research Institute of Economic Development (RIED) at Warsaw School of Economics under five successive research projects headed by the author. The aim is to develop a system of composite indicators based on quantitative and qualitative data to be used in analysing cyclical changes in the economy as well as in forecasting.
