Omówiono tendencje zmian liczby ludności oraz gęstość zaludnienia. Przedstawiono analizę zmian struktury wiekowej ludności.

The aim of the paper is to present the changes in the population structure in Poland in the post-war period. The studies on the population structure should start from the determination of the number of inhabitants. Thus, first, the growth trends regarding the total number of inhabitants, urban population and country people were examined. Then, the territorial changes in the distribution of the population were presented. Next the changes in the population structure according to the sex, age and place of living were analysed, ending in the deliberations on the ageing processes of the population. Finally, general remarks on the directions of changes in the structure of the population over the studied fourty years period were given.(original abstract)
