Financial aspects of sovereign wealth funds activity, despite some progress made in the last years, are still not fully known and understood. This paper attempts to shed light on some of these concerns. The main goal of this article is to examine strategic asset allocations within the group of sovereign wealth funds. The first section reviews the literature on financial aspects of sovereign wealth funds and recent finding on this issue. The second section discusses two types of assets allocation in the context of sovereign wealth funds. The third section examines and describes the strategic assets allocation for a group of 11 funds. This study adds to the literature by pointing out the difference in strategic asset allocation between saving funds, stabilization funds and contingent reserve pension funds. Evidence of empirical analysis suggests that stabilization funds have less groups of assets in their investment portfolios than saving funds and contingent reserve pension funds. It also argue that share of equities in overall portfolio of savings funds is greater than in contingent reserve pension funds. Finally, suggestions are made, to expand the scope of the study, to be able to analyze the relation between strategic assets allocation and financial performance of the funds. (original abstract)
