W artykule zbadano podobieństwa tendencji bankowych wskaźników rentowności oraz płynności w głównych polskich bankach notowanych na GPW w Warszawie. Badania przeoprowadzono na podstawie powszechnie dostępnych, publikowanych przez "Notorię serwis", wskaźników kwartalnej rentowności i płynności za lata 1998-2004. (fragment tekstu)

The article, being mostly of empirical nature, presents the results of studies on the similarity of tendencies of changes in the selected indicators of profitability and indicators of liquidity in 9 Polish stock exchange banks in the years 1998-2004. The results confirm that in the banks under analysis there was no uniform direction in the development of the relation between profitability and liquidity. Generally, the increase in liquidity is accompanied by the decrease in profitability. However, there are also some banks where the increasing liquidity is accompanied by the increase (not the decrease) in profitability. Variety of banks, both as regards direction and scale of similarity in the changes of liquidity and profitability, is responsible for the fact that making conclusions based on the "conglomerate" of all banks can only be of auxiliary character because the specific features of individual banks are not taken into account. Thus, it is necessary to conduct separate analyses for particular banks. (original abstract)
