W tym artykule podejmuję próbę odtworzenia kroków oraz, co być może jest nawet ważniejsze, sposobu myślenia, który doprowadził do tej intelektualnej transformacji. W końcowej części stawiam także pytanie dotyczące znaczenia tych kiedyś uważanych za rewolucyjne spostrzeżeń na temat gospodarki światowej która, jak postaram się to wyjaśnić, jest zapewne bardziej klasyczna obecnie aniżeli w czasie, gdy zaczynała się rewolucja w teorii handlu.
