Abstrakty

Celem niniejszego referatu jest wskazanie zależności między wielkością publicznych inwestycji infrastrukturalnych w transporcie a wzrostem dochodu w 17 regionach Hiszpanii w latach 1980-2000. Przeprowadzono analizę procesu kon-wergencji regionalnej oraz kształtowania się zasobu kapitału publicznego w tym okresie. wnioski wynikające z badań empirycznych porównano z teoretycznymi modelami nowej geografii ekonomicznej. The paper "Public Capital in the Process of Regional Convergence in Spain" aims at exploring the role of public capital, comprising mostly transport infrastructure investments, in reducing regional inequalities in Spain. The analysis indicates that during 1980s and 1990s there has been neither p nor c convergence in Spanish regions. It should be emphasized that over the last two decades transport infrastructure has emerged as a key regional policy issue in Spain. However, investments in transport infrastructure have not fostered development of backward regions as rich regions or regions located on transport corridors have been the main beneficiaries of new or modernized roads and railway lines. The results of this paper seem to confirm the econometric findings of Spanish economists and new economic geography models. The initial results show the need for further studies in the field, including Polish regions. (original abstract)
