Methodical aspects of risk assessment in investment projects in construction (survey research)

Abstrakty

The paper is both theoretical and empirical in its content. In particular, the theoretical deliberations in the paper are illustrated by the empirical research findings. The paper presents some findings of the empirical studies conducted by the author within the framework of his own research at the Department of Investments and Real-Estate, the University of Economics in Katowice, on the selected biggest construction and assembly companies in Poland in the years of 2009-2010. The criterion for this selection was their turnover figures from construction and assembly production for the previous financial year. The paper also presents some of the findings of the research conducted by the author for the needs of his dissertation. That research covered thirty medium-sized and big construction and assembly companies operating in the Silesian Voivodeship. The basic research tool in all these studies was a questionnaire, supplemented by face-to-face interviews. In the paper the author uses the methods of deduction and synthesis. When formulating the conclusions, he draws on his own knowledge and experience gained during his long-term research into risk management in the construction sector. In addition, the results of some similar studies performed in the USA are quoted in the paper. (fragment tekstu)
