The paper is part of the research on the sources of interorganizational competitive advantage. The aim is to determine attributes of relationship-specific assets that allow us to recognize them as the source of both achieving and maintaining interorganizational competitive advantage. On the basis of the literature study, particular character of relationship-specific assets was identified. On the other hand, the longitudinal study not only allowed us to identify the degree of asset specificity, but also revealed the scope of investments in these assets in future years, which is a prerequisite for the further use of the relationships with the key supplier. What is more, the empirical study showed another problem to be faced by customers, this time associated with investments in dedicated assets, necessary to maintain this advantage. This issue is particularly important in the cases where enterprises choose relational ways to achieve and sustain competitive advantage. (original abstract)
