Recenzowana książka - An Introduction to Distance Education. Understanding Teaching and Learning in a New Era1 - z pozoru stanowi podręcznik wprowadzający w tematykę e-edukacji. Jest to jednak mylące, bowiem podręcznik ma zwykle charakter możliwie obiektywny, zaś omawiana praca to publikacja "zaangażowana", a nawet pisana z subiektywnej perspektywy autorskiej. Chociaż współautorów jest aż trzynaścioro, reprezentują oni zbliżoną tradycję e-learningu, należą też do obrzeży świata anglojęzycznego (prawie połowa autorów pracuje w Kanadzie, głównie w prowincji Alberta, dwie inne osoby pochodzą z Australii i Nowej Zelandii).
