Multicriterial Analysis of Railways Reform Effects in Slovakia and Czech Republics in 2002 and 2003

This paper compares railway reform effects in the Slovak and Czech Republic. From de iure point of view the considered reform models appear to be the same, or at least very similar. From de facto point of view, the situation in the reform is rather different. Railway reform in the Slovak Republic is an application of vertical separation model - a model in which a single enterprise operates as a monopoly producer of infrastructure and other enterprises (including so called historical operator or operators) compete in the sector providing transportation services. In the Czech Republic railway reform, historical operator operates - from de facto point of view - as a monopoly producer of railway infrastructure and as one of several competitors in the production of transportation services. Not taking into account the chosen reform model, both railways use outsourcing as the way for concentrating their activities on core business.(fragment of text)
