Spatial Differentiation of the Economic Activity in Poland in the Period 1989-1993

Abstrakty
Poniższa analiza poświęcona jest badaniom zmian strukturalnych grup podmiotów gospodarczych w okresie 1989-1993, z uwzględnieniem struktury zatrudnienia w podziale na sektor prywatny i publiczny (w latach 1991-1992). Celem niniejszego opracowania jest wskazanie, w których działach nastąpiło największe ożywienie działalności gospodarczej (mierzone liczbą istniejących podmiotów gospodarczych) oraz ukazanie, które regiony Polski i dlaczego odznaczają się dużą aktywnością gospodarczą, a które nie wykazują większego ożywienia i jaki wpływ może to wywrzeć na przyszły kształt struktury gospodarczej w ujęciu przestrzennym.
Systemic transformation in our country has started significant changes in various spheres of the socio-economic life which manifest themselves in e.g. increase of new forms of economic subject (in a private sector mainly), and decline of an importance of public sector It has been reflected in both: sectional and spatial differentiation of that phenomenon, and also in a structure of ownership (organisational forms) of economic subject and the range and structure of unemployment. Changes in legislative regulations concerning establishment and functioning of economic subjects caused spectacular growth in a number of economic subject within private sector, especially foundations and joint-venture companies (thirty times growth comparing to 1989), meanwhile that sector was mainly represented by domestic private companies of trade law (over 50% of a total number of subjects in that sector). Relatively large interest of private sector was concentrated on trade, industrial and constructional activities, whenever public sector has strengthened its connections with a sphere outside material production - that means sections which services so far were considered widely accessible and under the state surveillance. That influenced their staying, at least at the present phase of transition, outside main range of private sector penetration. Changes occurring within a socio-economic structure of our country have also their spatial dimension. Generally speaking those transformation have led towards consolidation of an already existing division of the country into higher developed regions and those underdeveloped, which economic activity during the surveyed period, haven't changed significantly It can arouse some concern because under current economic and social conditions overcoming difficult situation on the labour market, especially in underdeveloped eastern regions, depends to a great amount on a prospective development of the private sector So far the private sector isn't very interested, as it seems, in economically underdeveloped and with underdeveloped economic and technical infrastructure regions, and partly in regions with a domination or significant share of natural resources and traditional industries Wide variety of phenomena expressing economic activity inclines to consider selected factors of the problem. Hence the article is limited to indication of sections of national economy which are characterised by a greatest animation of economic activity and presentation of regions with higher activity and without any particular activity. Such analysis is significant from the point of view of influence of contemporary differentiation in economic activity on future economic development in spatial approach. (original abstract)
