Abstrakty

Ubóstwo należy zaliczyć do najstarszych tematów badawczych, jakie podejmowano w zakresie badania warunków życia ludności. Pierwsze próby badań w tym zakresie podejmowano już w ubiegłym wieku, a na początku XX-tego wieku podjęto już szersze gadania i analizy w tej dziedzinie. W pionierskich pracach Bootha /1889-1892/ i Rowntree /1901/ próbowano dokonać pomiaru rozmiarów ubóstwa miejskiego w Londynie i Yorku. Mniej znaną, lecz być może bardziej ambitną, była próba pomiaru ubóstwa krajowego przez hinduskiego polityka i ekonomistę Dadabhai Naoroji na początku tego stulecia.

In the article there have been discussed the issues of objective and subjective measures of poverty on the base of literature on the subject as well as the position of the poverty problems in studies on household budgets conducted by the Central Statistical Office /CSO/. The here-presented general outline of possibilities to use the results of studies on budgets show the advantages and restrictions brought about by the application of this information. The main restriction does not consist in their covering all the groups of population, eg. the ones living in collective households, thus the ones living in extreme situations, whichare very often correlatéd with poverty. However, the results of studies on budgets constitute a base for the realization of a multi-dimensional analysis of poverty scope.(original abstract)
