Badanie rozpoznawcze w podstawowych szkołach warszawskich jest jednym z trzech badań empirycznych dotychczas przeprowadzonych przez IGS w ramach problematyki zagrożeń ubóstwem w okresie przeobrażeń zachodzących w Polsce. W kwietniu 1990 roku Instytut Gospodarstwa Społecznego zwrócił się listownie do 212 szkół podstawowych w Warszawie z informacją o podjęciu badań na temat zagrożeń społecznych związanych z przemianami gospodarczymi zachodzącymi aktualnie w Polsce, z myślą o formułowaniu wniosków dla polityki społecznej, służących przeciwdziałaniu negatywnym zjawiskom, jakie temu towarzyszą.

Survey of elementary schools in Warsaw is one of the three empirical studies realized by the Institute of Social Economy under the study on the danger of poverty in the period of transformations proceeding in Poland. In April 1990 the Institute sent letters to 212 primary schools in Warsaw with information of undertaking the survey. The schools were requested to answer the following questions: 1/ Do children from families living in privation attend the school, if so - how many children like that go to school? What characterizes these families? 2/ Does school undertake any actions to the benefit of children who live under difficult conditions? If so - what is the nature of these actions? 3/ Can there be observed any new, negative phenomena, which could be linked to the present economic situation? This concerns both - pupils and their families and the school as such, 4/ Can the school board see any possibilities to establish long-term cooperation with our Institute in the field of expanded studies on the above-enlisted problems. The results of study show, that primary school is a valuable source of information of the danger of poverty of poverty in a local environment. This has a certain significance for further research as well as activities of social care. Direction in studies consisting in observations of the danger of poverty - through inquires directed to schools - and in order to explore the issue deeper - to students of older forms, may deliver valuable information. Problem which demands urgent study consists in nourishment of students, answer to the question how meals in the school canteen are replaced, as still more parents abandon these. Question of the transformations proceeding in Poland and their connection with the negative phenomena observed at school appeared to be a real question of a researcher. Further studies should include exemplification of negative phenomena which have already been observed and which can be expected to occur. Information should be collected of the occurrence of the respective phenomena in a given school. Frequent repetition of such inquiries in selected schools would provide the information of an increase or decrease of these alarming phenomena. (original abstract)
