Globalisation after the end of the Cold War has created a new historic opportunity for the countries of East-Central Europe (ECE). These countries can become an organic part of the globalised world economy and can close the development gap existing between them and countries with developed market economies. There is a real chance to close this gap in a relatively short time - no more than a couple of decades. If we take into consideration that this gap has existed for centuries, then this can be considered a historic opportunity. Multinational Companies (MNCs) - which are the prime force of globalisation and which will have more and more influence over the economies of the ECE countries - can play a major role in lifting these countries to a higher level of economic development.
