The concept of social marketing means the application of marketing principles and techniques to influence the target group to voluntarily accept a particular behavior by either rejecting, modifying or abandoning it for the good of the individuals, groups or society as a whole. The goal is to improve the quality of life, for instance by influencing the decision makers to choose environmental friendly transport offers. Intermodal transport as a technology can give measurable effects to both social benefits and the economy. Solutions for the development of intermodal transport include marketing ideas related to the importance of proper relations between: logistic operators and the customer. Among the key challenges for transport is "The need to build partnerships between the intermodal operator and its customer - if they happen they are of significant value for both parties". Transport users' decisions are made on the basis of the 3A concept: availability, acceptance and awareness. Most of today's transport businesses (including intermodal) is networked and therefore relies heavily on partner relationships with other companies. According to Armstrong and Kotler, they indicate a perfect understanding of the value chain of service - profit. This is consistent with Doyle's thesis which claims that it is beneficial to build long-lasting relationships with customers. It results in a trust and loyalty of customers who, consequently, always use the services of the company. Ultimate goal of the intermodal transport is problem solving of a customer (interoperability, logistics, trading, documentation etc.) connected with the movement of a particular product from point A to point B. Therefore, effectively solving customer problems that create value for a permanent customer base for the combined transport operator.(author's abstract)
