Mergers and acquisitions are common practice in today's global market. In 2011 alone, 37,900 transactions with a total value of nearly USD 2.5 trillion were conducted. Most of the mergers and acquisitions took place in the United States with the crucial sectors of the market for corporate control being: energy, financial and raw materials. The transport and logistics sector is also one of the industries where M&A transactions are executed. In 2011, the sector reported 1,895 transactions of USD 158.5 billion in total value. It can be noted that the T&L industry's share in the global market for corporate control is about 3%. Despite the small share in M&A transactions, it significantly impacts the operation of the transport market, in particular, development of the supply side.(original abstract)

Transakcje fuzji i przejęć przedsiębiorstw są obecnie powszechną praktyką na światowym rynku. W 2011 roku zgłoszonych zostało 37 900 tego typu transakcji o wartości łącznej blisko 2,5 bln USD. Najwięcej fuzji i przejęć miało miejsce w Stanach Zjednoczonych, natomiast najważniejszymi sektorami gospodarki na rynku kontroli przedsiębiorstw była energetyka, sektor finansowy oraz surowcowy. Wśród branż, gdzie realizowane są transakcje M&A jest również sektor transportu i logistyki. W 2011 roku w sektorze tym zgłoszonych było 1895 transakcji o wartości 158,5 mld USD. Można więc wskazać, że udział branży T&L w rynku kontroli przedsiębiorstw wynosi ok. 3%. Pomimo niewielkiego udziału, transakcje M&A będą posiadać więc istotny wpływ na działanie rynku transportu, a w szczególności kształtowania jego strony podażowej. (abstrakt oryginalny)
