The access to education for children and adolescents from rural areas has been a subject of thorough studies conducted by many researchers. What they pointed out was the amount of historically determined barriers affecting equal opportunities of access to educational services for children from rural areas, in comparison with children from the urban areas. The attention has been paid to barriers of an objective and subjective nature; the former ones being, among others, the level of competence of teachers working in village schools, the number of schools and their equipment, the physical access to schools, especially at the level of primary education. The objective barriers include also financial means that limit the scope of realization of educational ambitions. The latter ones (subjective barriers) include the lack of or the low level of educational aspirations among parents from rural areas. This is true, especially amongst uneducated, and consequently often poorer, inhabitants of rural areas and is connected with a well-known process of the 'inheritance of poverty'. (fragment of text)
