Abstrakty

The inactive cannot be called as homogenous group of those of the labour force. Inactivity can result from lack of job search or readiness to start working. Literature survey shows that various quantitative methods can be applied to verify existence of the discouraged worker effect. Discouraged workers and the inactive looking for work but not ready to start working constitute reserve labour force. In favourable circumstances on the market they can compete for job posts with the unemployed, who are only the fraction of all those who look for work. (original abstract)
