Abstrakty
The aim of this article is to show three selected components of the group identity in the cluster initiative Interizon: regional identification, industry sector identification and commitment to the initiative, and to assess their impact on the success of the initiative. The authors discuss the results of a study carried out in 2014 among members of the Interizon. The study was conducted in two phases. The first phase of the study was based on: direct observation of the strategy development process within the initiative, interviews with members of the Interizon and documents generated in the course of the activity of initiative. The second stage of the study was based on standardized questionnaire technique. This phase of the study covered 24 cluster initiative member companies. The results suggest a rather strong regional identification in the Interizon. The development of the initiative is strongly determined by regional conditions, and the strongest uniting force of the initiative is the Gdansk University of Technology, which is the main initiator of the Interizon. Cluster initiative members identify themselves with the wider ICT sector and are willing to take up cooperation within the industry. The initiative, as a platform for bringing actors from the same sector together, is intended to facilitate the establishment of such contacts. Aspirations for the initiative becoming a large, open supra-regional organization may weaken regional and industry sector identification within the initiative, and furthermore weaken the sense of geographical location, unity and community. This could result in the member being less involved in action at the initiative level, and, in the longer term, the collapse of the entire group. (original abstract)
