Financial and Reporting Aspects of Creating Reserves for Catastrophic Risk

Being convinced that one of conditions of high quality of insurance protection that is provided by an insurer is a possibility of continuing insurer's activities, the text presented below analyses different aspects of creating reserves as a result of existence of untypical, catastrophic risk. Creating reserves involves retaining resources in an insurance company, which - in the log run - is of much importance for the company solvency. The issue in question - in the context of catastrophic risk - gains in meaning. Such meaning results from specifics of the risk analysed and from controversies related to expressing the risk in financial reporting of an insurance company (that are observed in discussions held internationally). Anna Karmariska Taking into account global changes that are observed worldwide (including the European Union as well) and that concern standards of generating financial information to be used while performing various assessments of insurance companies' standing, the below considerations are presented to indicate financial and reporting consequences of catastrophic risk related protection.
