For a long time measuring the quality of competition has belonged to the very important topics in the economic research. One of the possible approaches is Panzar-Rosse H-statistics - a non-structural model measuring the market power of a bank by a change in the equilibrium revenues caused by a change in the input prices. Most of the empirical studies based on Panzar-Rosse methodology and interested in banking sectors in transition countries provide strong evidence that these banking sectors are characterized by monopolistic competition - that is dominant banks are competing on the monopolistic market by offered products, quality of services or distribution channels. This is absolutely true for Poland and the Czech Republic. Not only two more closely discussed analyses but all studies known to us come to the conclusion that in both of these countries banking sectors are characterized by monopolistic competition.
