Celem artykułu jest znalezienie odpowiedzi na pytania: W jakim stopniu i czym różnią się warunki życia mieszkańców w krajach tworzących Grupę Wyszehradzką, w stosunku do pozostałych nowych państw członkowskich UE (NEU10 - krajów, które od 2004 roku są członkami Unii Europejskiej)? Jaki jest dystans pomiędzy nimi a krajami "starej Unii" (UE15)?(fragment tekstu)

The purpose of the article was to assess and analyse the changes in the standard of living of the population in the countries of the Visegrad Group (V4) on the background of the other Member States of the European Union. To the overall assessment of the level of life of the inhabitants of the V4 adopted: GDP per capita and human development index (HDI), divided into two periods: before and after accession to the EU. In a detailed analysis (after accession) includes issues such as: the level of economic development, labour market, investment in the protection of the health and social welfare, the degree of risk of poverty. GDP analysis showed that the level of economic development of the countries of the Eu15 countries average was below the V4 and the average new Member countries (NEU10). On the basis of the HDI, it was found that during the period the quality of life in the countries of the V4 has improved, though to varying degrees. In order to assess the degree of variation in socio-economic conditions, the taxonomic analysis (grouping of countries by using the method of k-medium). In the grouping of countries on the basis of data from the 2005 V4 countries were assigned to two different agglomerates and grouping of 2012, all in one. It is about the process of levelling up the standard of living in these countries. Care and social services in the countries of the V4 makes the living conditions in these countries are far worse than those in other EU countries, in particular in relation to the Eu15. In conclusion, it was found that the highest level of V4 countries life occurs in the Czech Republic, and the lowest in Hungary. In Poland and Slovakia, the living conditions of the residents are gradually improved.(original abstract)
