Abstrakty
Successfully managing the succession process is a great challenge for every family businesses owner. The future of the family business depends on how effectively the process will be implemented and how well the family will be prepared for the transition. The succession is a very complex issue; therefore the process should be distinctly planned. Planning the succession early determines not only the future of the business, but also the general wellbeing of the family. The article explores objectives and priority actions that the founder has to undertake during each phase of the succession process. Based on some of the most recent scientific literature the article provides comprehensive description of common problems, which the founder and the business face during and after the transition period and the best practices of family firms across the world. The author's objective was to answer the question: how to manage the succession process in order to provide further development of the business under the continuous supervision of the committed family members.
