Mazatlan is a tourist destination, its beaches and historic center are the main attractions. Its economy depends on tourism by 46.89 percent (Nava and Ibarra, 2010). However, in the months of low season is immersed in a process of stagnation; 44,000 employees work in hotel, commercial, restaurateur sectors, transportation, cultural and recreational services, accounting for 29.6 percent of the total economically active population of the city (INEGI 2011), limiting the development of the town. This work is exploratory, involving qualitative and quantitative methods that presents partial results of a wider investigation. The aim of the study was to analyze the economic feasibility and implementation of educational tourism as a strategy to change economic indicators in low season period; and thus achieve stable employment and a balanced economy so that their activity levels would not decrease but instead at least be maintained. Based on the foregoing, we conclude that Mazatlan possess the resources; mostly tourists have a high level of education; hotels and restaurants are ready and feel that the educational tourism can be a viable alternative for the economy.
