Abstrakty
Wśród klasyków zarządzania jest niewiele kobiet. Jedną z nich jest Mary B. Gilson, postać w literaturze krajowej nieznana. Celem artykułu jest próba wypełnienia tej luki ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem dokonań Mary B. Gilson w Clothcraft Shops of the Joseph & Feiss Company i jej pionierskiego wkładu w tworzenie fundamentów zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi. Praca jest studium literaturowym, bazującym na publikacjach Mary B. Gilson i Richarda A. Feissa - osób, które odpowiadały za zarządzanie w Clothcraft Shops, oraz na pochodzących z lat późniejszych opisach ich dorobku. Mary B. Gilson, będąc jednym z pierwszych krytyków tayloryzmu, zwróciła uwagę na konieczność poprawy relacji z pracownikami. Podejmując pracę w Clothcraft Shops, dążyła do stworzenia organizacji, która potrafi zintegrować pracę personelu z zarządzaniem fabryką. W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję dostosowania zatrudnionych do pracy na stanowisku i dla organizacji oraz omówiono techniki stosowane podczas procesu rekrutacji i adaptacji. Omówiono również koncepcję współrządzenia pracowników oraz istotną dla Mary B. Gilson rolę kobiet w zarządzaniu. Spora część jej osiągnięć jest wykorzystywana w praktyce zarządzania do dziś. There have been very few women among classic pioneers of management. One of them was Mary B. Gilson, who is virtually non-existent in the Polish literature on the subject. The aim of the article is to present the role of women in this area with a particular consideration of Mary B. Gilsons achievements in the Clothcraft Shops of the Joseph & Feiss Company and her pioneering contribution to the development of the fundamentals of HRM. The paper is a bibliographical study based on the publications of Mary B. Gilson and Richard A. Feiss, who were responsible for the management of the Clothcraft Shops, and on the further accounts qf their concepts. Mary B. Gilson, as one of the first critics of Taylorism, concentrated on the necessity to improve the relationships between management and employees. Her objective at the Clothcraft Shops was to develop an organization that could integrate company management with the work of its staff. The article presents the concept of employee adaptation to the workplace and organization and it discusses the techniques of recruitment and adaptation. The article also presents the idea of employee co-management and the role of women in management, which was a significant issue to Mary B. Gilson whose numerous ideas are still implemented in personnel management. (original abstract)
