By 2030, more than half the world's population will reside in cities. Such a perspective can reduce food security in urban areas, especially in poorer countries. An effective solution may become acting in many countries urban agriculture, defined as all forms of agricultural production, carried out in or on the areas surrounding the city, designed to ensure food products for sale on the local markets, or for consumption by the producers. In the article the short historical view of this phenomenon, also its structure and the approximate scale of size, its advantages and limitations were presented. (original abstract)
