We wszystkich badanych grupach (oprócz chińskiej i rosyjskiej) częstotliwość użytkowania Facebooka jest związana z poszukiwaniem informacji w szczególności o odzieży i obuwiu.

An aim of the article is to identify the types of products whose information the users of social media (SM) are searching in them as well as to answer the question whether there is a relationship between the frequency of searching information on various categories of products via SM and the variables in the form of age and sex. Moreover, an objective is to identify the relationships between the frequency of use of Facebook as one of the most popular social media services and the frequency of searching for information on products. The research material was, first, search query of the subject literature and, second, empirical data obtained in the survey carried out in seven countries differing in terms of culture (China, Germany, Poland, Russia, Spain, Turkey, and the United States). The empirical research findings show that respondents, irrespective the country of origin, primarily search for information via SM, both about smartphones or hardware and fashion. Also the biggest number of positive interdependencies was identified in relation to clothes and footwear. The sex significantly doffers the search for information in SM on cosmetics as well as clothes. In turn, the age affects the search for information about mobile phones. In all the groups surveyed (except for the Chinese and Russian), the frequency of the use of Facebook is connected with the search for information particularly on clothes and footwear. Practical implications: the knowledge of the fact what types of products attract a particular attention of the SM users may be of great importance for enterprises (producers of definite goods) wishing to make use of these instruments in marketing communication in the selected foreign markets. The article is of the research nature. (original abstract)
