W artykule przedstawiono efekty badań dotyczących społecznej percepcji projektów przyszłego podziału administracyjnego kraju na obszarze dwóch miast - Łowicza i Skierniewic oraz pięciu sąsiednich gmin. Zawarto w nim również prezentację kierunków ciążeń społeczno -ekonomicznych mieszkańców badanego terenu w aspekcie przyszłych podziałów oraz przedstawia stan przygotowania Łowicza do ewentualnego pełnienia funkcji miasta powiatowego w przypadku realizacji trójszczeblowego wariantu podziału administracyjnego. The transition of the political system in Poland after 1989 induced a discussion on a new administrative division of the country that would, more closely correspond to the present socio-economic conditions. Therefore, it is indispensable to test the opinions of local communities as to existing proposals for administrative reform. The purpose of this study was to examine the social perception of these schemes and also to determine the gravitation of the inhabitants of the region in question toward urban centres. An additional goal was to estimate a readiness of these centres to assume the district functions. The inquiry conducted among the inhabitants of Skierniewice, Łowicz and five adjacent communes revealed a clear partition of the area into districts and voivodships imagined by the responders. The communes that opted for the planned Łowicz district identify themselves with the Łódź Voivodship. On the other hand, the communes willing to belong to the Skierniewice district tend to look to the Warsaw voivodship; likewise the inhabitants of the commune of Bolimów, who hesitate as to their attachment to a district. These preferences correspond to the main directions of economic links in the region. The results of the research prove a durability of the social and economic connections that have persisted for 20 years despite changes in the administrative division of Poland. (original abstract)
