The article deals with the platooning issue, which involves the chain of many semiautonomous trucks linked with the intelligent DATP Driver Assistive Truck Platooning system based on a series of sensors, cameras and satellite communications between vehicles. The aim of the article is to identify the legal aspects that allow to use platooning in road transport with its advantages and barriers. The scope of the study covered the national law, European Union law and the Vienna Convention on road traffic. Only the vehicles with a maximum permissible gross vehicle weight of 40 tonnes in significant terms of the working time of drivers are the subject of the study. This article is composed of four parts of four parts: Introduction, Chapter I on Driver's Time and Technical Issues, Chapter II on Law, Summaries. The "Truck Platooning" project study was based on the work of the Dutch TNO organization, the creator of this idea. The information used comes from transport and commercial business articles as well as from the originator mentioned. The text concludes with deductions from the authors. The law shall govern the idea of Truck Platooning and the barriers which should work to this project to succeed and come into widespread use. In summary, they shall be concluded with what problems the developers need to face. The article also addresses the issues of the tested technologies in terms of costs and safety, as well as the impact of platooning on the transport development. An important element is to indicate the legal deficiencies in the use of platooning in Poland and its opportunities and threats in driving on the roads. (original abstract)
