The article analyses the relationship between municipality size, legal regulations and its choice of instruments for inter-municipal cooperation. The analysis concentrates on two issues, namely the territorial fragmentation and territorial consolidation in selected Central and Eastern European countries and cooperation among local governments. The research results show the municipality size and the instruments used for inter-municipal cooperation to be not related to each other. (original abstract)
