Socio-Economic Aspects of Development of Rural Communes in Poland : Case of Godzianów

Various development scenarios for different types of communes are being implemented. The development is carried out in a number of directions and at various pace, depending on their resources and ability to use them. The aim of the text is displaying the selected socio-economic aspects of the development of agricultural communities in Poland, based on the example of the commune of Godzianów. This community is characterised by two social processes, adversely affecting the development: ageing of the population and migration. The basis of the commune's economy has been agriculture and it is the most important factor determining the contemporary features of this still traditional rural community. The negative phenomena, which are also rooted in macro-social processes, are not effectively suppressed by active local government policies. This is probably due to the lack of financial resources, but also insufficient vision of the future of the commune. In the period 2011-2014, there can be seen manifestations of the investment policy pursued by the mayor of the commune in the area of sport and recreation development. However, no action was taken by him to support economic activity, and especially the agriculture-related one. Social policy remains outside the sphere of interest of the authorities.
