Według danych z raportu World Urbanization Prospects: The 2018 Revision report, przygotowanego przez Organizację Narodów Zjednoczonych, już od 10 lat ludność miejska globalnie przewyższa liczbowo ludność wiejską; natomiast zgodnie z prognozami - w 2050 r. współczynnik urbanizacji powinien wynieść aż 68,4%. Miasta zmieniają się nieustannie, a koncepcja smart city nabiera coraz większego znaczenia. W artykule autorki dokonują analizy podstawowych uwarunkowań realizacji smart city projects, do których zaliczają równowagę, oscylację oraz umiejętną integrację zasobów i koordynację działań. Ponadto przedstawiają cztery interpretacje pojęcia inteligentnego miasta (smart technology in the city, smart people in the city, smart collaboration in the city oraz combinations of smart technology, smart people and smart collaboration in the city), a także zwracają uwagę na obszary realizacji smart city projects i na logikę preferencji występującą w każdym procesie decyzyjnym władz miejskich. According to the date from the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects: The 2018 Revision report, the size of the urban population has already been greater than the size of the rural population for ten years; however, according to the forecasts, the urbanization coefficient should be as high as 68.4% in 2050. Cities are constantly changing, while the concept of the smart city is becoming increasingly gaining in importance. In the article, the authoresses analyse the fundamental conditions of implementing smart city projects, in which they include balance, oscillation and skilful integration of resources and the coordination of activities. Furthermore, they present four interpretations of the notion of a smart city (smart technology in the city, smart people in the city, smart collaboration in the city and combinations of smart technology, smart people and smart collaboration in the city) and draw attention to the areas of implementation of smart city projects and the logic of preferences in every decision-making process of city authorities.
