Abstrakty

Fair Trade is a grassroots, socio-business, dynamically developing international initiative, whose main goal is to fight against poverty and the marginalization of the poorest producers in the Global South countries. The aim of the paper is to analyze the development trends of the Fair Trade movement with particular emphasis on the genesis of this phenomenon and the dilemmas which it currently has to deal with. Particularly noteworthy is the large diversity of entities operating and the growing number of certificates functioning within the Fair Trade movement while striving to increase their integrity, the increasing presence of Fair Trade products on the mainstream market and the adaptation of the strategies of the movement to changing market conditions and the growing awareness of high developed markets' consumers about the global income inequalities and dramatic living conditions of producers from the South.(original abstract)
