In this article the stages of the COVID-19 epidemic's development in Ukraine are shown, together with the actions taken by the government via medical authorities in preventing and combating the epidemic. Ukraine, as a country undergoing health care reform, was thrust into the epidemic without a strong leader in the healthcare field and the population had to struggle with inconsistent political decisions. Ukraine introduced a long lockdown early when only a few cases were recorded and followed it by rapidly lifting restrictions regardless of the number of recorded cases in order to prevent collapse of the country's economy.
