The development of a professional career requires both human and social capital. As follows from the results of international studies, the human capital of both men and women holding similar positions is comparable, but considerable discrepancies in terms of social capital can be observed. Specifically, the social capital of women is lower, which leads to inequalities. When advancement to higher tiers of management is considered, social capital becomes paramount. The aim of the article is to identify the characteristics of women's social capital and recognize its role in the context of career development. The findings are based on a systematic review of research publications from the Web of Science database published between 1985 and 2020. Data show that women have lower social capital than men-a significant barrier in their careers-and use different strategies to achieve success. This problem has not been studied widely in Poland. A closer look should be taken at this issue. (original abstract)
Rozwój kariery menedżerskiej wymaga posiadania kapitału ludzkiego i kapitału społecznego.
