Over the last thirty years, Poland has witnessed significant changes in individual mobility and car ownership. This paper identifies the determinants of car ownership at the local level in 2005 and 2019. Spatial econometrics models and data covering more than 36 mln cars aggregated to the level of the powiat (the second-lowest administrative unit in Poland) reveal that car ownership in those years was determined by everyday work mobility and housing type. The role of other factors, e.g. income, population density, expenditure on public transport, and demographic structure, changed during the years in question. (original abstract)
