The contemporary societies of central and eastem Europę have survived a succession of historical events and transformations that must have left some prints on their age composition. The older cohorts experienced economic depression and two World Wars, while all of today's generations confront economic decline. It is interesting to see how and when contemporary transformations will be reflected in population pyramids. Taking into account the fact that each of the populations possesses a specific age structure created by its own history we can ask the following ęuestions: - Do similar age distributions exist among central and eastern European countries? - Is it possible to find some factors that could be treated as determinants of the age structure of populations in central and eastern European countries?(fragment of text)
