Abstrakty
(fragment tekstu)
Biopolymers are a group of compounds present in the environment, containing among others lignin, cellulose, starch or pectin. Adsorption of heavy metal ions Cu(II), Pb(II) on cellulose powder in aqueous solutions and effect of N-2-hydroxyethylpiperazine-N'- 2-ethanesulphonic acid (HEPES) on the adsorption were investigated. Reactions of the solutions were adjusted to pH 4,0 using 0,1 M NaOH; 0,1 M HC1 and 0,1 M HC1; 0,1 M HEPES, and initial metal ion concentration was 0,2 mM. Cellulose powder could adsorb effectively the investigated metal ions. Uptakes of Cu(II) and Pb(II) were repeatedly higher in solutions 0,1 M NaOH - 0,1 M HC1 than 0,1 M HC1 - 0,1 M HEPES. The investigated buffer probably shows surfactant activity and is capable to bind copper and lead . Shaking time did not have any significant effect on adsorption, which allows to make an assumption that this is a physical adsorption. Results obtained in the course of research make it possible to put forward a hypothesis that natural materials like wicker bark, containing in its tissues among other things cellulose and lignin, can be potentially used to adsorb heavy metals. This, however, needs further investigation. (original abstract)
