Content available remote Career Shaping of a Talented Employee
100%
Contemporary career is perceived more like an individual's property, as opposed to the traditional understanding of an organization property or profession. The principal responsibility for its shape and conduct is taken over by an employee. It is interpreted primarily in a personal, subjective way. Career paths are created in time, space, which will be recognized by an individual as beneficial. Also, the career direction and the interpretation of its success have an individual dimension. This observation is particularly relevant for talented individuals who have a disproportionate impact on the organization performance. If they leave the organization, it poses a serious threat to its functioning and development. Talent management is interpreted primarily taking into account the organizational aspect. It is, therefore, important to build employees' relationships with the organization, which requires both strategic and individual perspective. (original abstract)

Content available remote Students' Career Preferences: Intercultural Study of Croatian and German Students
100%
Students' career preferences are an important issue to various stakeholders: to university administration, career counselors, higher education policy makers as well as to human resource managers in companies. Students, whose career preferences and goals are fulfilled, are better and more highly motivated employees. By a questionnaire survey carried out in 2016 in two institutions of higher education the present study compares career preferences and attitudes of 478 German and Croatian students. Factor analyses identify latent variables behind students' preferences. The identified significant differences between the Germans and Croatians are related to differences in socio-economic environment and cultural differences derived through the Hofstede model. German students value safe jobs, trust and a high income significantly more, whereas for Croatian students stimulating tasks, career opportunities, a recognized profession and social responsibility are more important. Our results indicate that Hofstede's findings for the uncertainty avoidance index and the individualism/collectivism index might be questioned for the subsample of a young student population who show different value criteria in their career preferences. Wynika to głównie z braku konsensusu w organizacyjnym rozumieniu talentu.

Objective: This paper seeks to contribute to the discussion devoted to entrepreneurship of a specific profession group - early retired servicemen. The aim of the paper is to provide a composition of existing practices of entrepreneurship skills development of early retired servicemen in EU member countries and evaluate the differences between Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and Western Europe (WE) practice. Research Design & Methods: Institutional survey was employed as a methodological approach for this study. The survey questionnaire included request data on programs and services that maintain the promotion, training, counselling and financial or infrastructural support by fostering entrepreneurship activities of retired officers. Findings: The results indicate the lack of entrepreneurship development policies for early retired servicemen, while service in military often provides highly specific competencies that can be adapted as transferable expertise and knowledge for entrepreneurship. Implications & Recommendations: The paper has identified the need to include entrepreneurship skills development in the reintegration programs of early retired servicemen. Development of entrepreneurship skills may prepare servicemen, who are being dismissed from the service, for new economic activities, as well as create conditions for their successful reintegration into civilian life. Contribution & Value Added: The paper contributes to the debates surrounding entrepreneurship of a specific professional group - early retired servicemen. (original abstract)

Content available remote Students' Expectations from Career Counselling in Polish and Swedish Culture
84%
The article investigates differences between Polish and Swedish students with regard to perception of their own culture based on four dimensions: Masculinity/ Femininity, Power Distance, Individualism/Collectivism, and Uncertainty Avoidance, and also students' declared expectations from career counselling. In both groups, the direction and range of cultural factors' influence upon expectations from a career counsellor were also examined. The sample comprised 163 Polish and Swedish students. Results were analysed using ANOVA and canonical analysis. As expected, differences between the groups were statistically significant for all the four cultural dimensions. Significant differences between the two nationalities in expectations from counselling were found on: Motivation, Openness, Realism, Directiveness, Attractiveness, Tolerance, and Outcomes. Cultural dimensions that influence formation of Swedish students' expectations from counselling to the greatest extent were: Power Distance and Individualism. In the case of Polish students, cultural factors did not predict variability in the structure of their expectations from a career counsellor. (original abstract)
W sferze edukacji należy poszukiwać zasadniczych sposobów aktywizacji zawodowej poprzez dwa działania: - dostosowanie oferty edukacyjnej do dynamicznie zmieniających się potrzeb rynku pracy; - wzmocnienie systemu edukacji ustawicznej.
