Wywiad gospodarczy to dziś ważna broń w interesach.

Intelligence in Medium-sized companies: experience from successful Bi4dynamics solution projects 9.1 Overview Business Intelligence (BI), a concept which emerged in the 1990s, became over the years more mature, elaborated, but also diversified. Derived from the basic concepts of Management Information Systems (MIS) and combined with Decision Supports Systems (DSS), it appeared for a short period of time as the Executive Information Systems (EIS) [1]. When the concept of data warehouses (DW) were developed and on-line analytical concepts (OLAP) became popular, the domain of BI gained importance. BI has, as do all information systems, two sides. One of them is technology side which defines the structure and technologies used. It deals with the data warehouse as the central point of BI to which data have to be collected through sophisticated processes of ETL (Extraction Transformation- Loading) which connects business information solutions at an operational level with the data warehouse. This transfer of data in the past was very batch-oriented with certain delays; it became faster with less delays than recently and is nearly on-line or even fully on-line in some solutions. Once data are in the data warehouse, they have to be formatted and disseminated to managers. At this point, companies can use different technologies from the broad group of OLAP tools. All this technological diversity has to be integrated by the company that wants to build such a system. BI also has another side. Because BI is about reporting, analysis and decision support, it can be also observed from the user side from the business side. At the beginning, these viewpoints have been somewhat neglected and the technology side was more important. But when BI became mature, in-depth research on its quality of support that was provided for managers emerged. Questions about the Business Value of BI occur more and more often. Howson defines seven areas of the Business Value of BI [2]: - BI for management and control; - BI for improving business performance; - Operational BI; - BI for process improvement; - BI for improve customer service; - BI for discovering new business opportunities; - BI for government and public services. This definition implies that BI became, even if the same technologies are used, more diversified and elaborated. The term BI maturity, the research area of several researchers [3], is explained in the literature by several models. It is very often used in the Six-stage BI maturity model by TDWI [4] which delimits six stages and defines for each one its own structural characteristics, analytics ability and focus of the stage. According to that model an up-to-date BI system is in its Adult (fifth) stage, and where the Enterprise DW is used, dashboards and cascading scorecards are implemented; the focus of the BI systems is not only in insight but more in support for action. BI systems are moving toward six stages of the aforementioned model where structure can be described as analytical services and as imbedded BI. When a system is mature, leveraging the system becomes a crucial question for an organization. So it is not surprising that more and more research on BI is recently focused on the acceptance of BI by its users (namely managers). The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). (original abstract)
The aim of the article is a presentation of the report of the latest studies carried out at the Faculty of Management and Economics of Services (University of Szczecin, Poland) on analyzing the quality level of two business intelligence system (Power BI and Tableau Public). Analysis was based on the multi-criteria analytic hierarchy process AHP method, a tool that is used for determining the main criteria of BI system evaluation. By structuring the problem based on the hierarchy, it is possible to better understand the level of quality, the criteria to be used and the alternatives to be evaluated. The proposed research concept can be used to analyze business intelligence problems within the framework of specific subjects, such as system quality, quality of analysis, data cleaning and data connectors, visualization etc. Assuming a proper (the best description of the nature of BI systems) selection of descriptive characteristics and transforming them into real determinants, the AHP concept can be used to improve decisions on quality issues in BI system evaluation.(author's abstract)
Nowa technologia powinna łączyć strategię i wizję firmy z jej działalnością operacyjną. Obecnie rozwijające się organizacje wykorzystują rozwiązania klasy Business Intelligence, stanowiące jednolite środowisko informatyczne, łączące informacje pochodzące z różnych aplikacji oddzielnie funkcjonujących w firmie w unikatową i wartościową wiedzę. Projekty IT napotykają wiele zawiłości, wyzwań i ograniczeń, takich jak odkrycie i określenie wielu wymiarów informacji, uczynienie danych wystarczająco elastycznymi do tego by umożliwić wykonywanie zapytań i drążenie danych. Purpose: The objective of this paper is to make the reader aware of how to design dashboards dedicated to project indicator visualization so as to support their digestibility, usability (scannability) and customizability. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve this goal, first, a literature review was conducted to identify principles for designing dashboards for this issue. Secondly, a real project management dashboard was built to investigate, in terms of technical issues, which interventions a project management dashboard designer should use to create a useful tool that would support the work of the project team. Findings: The digestibility should address the following issues: 1) the optimal number of visualizations, 2) chart selections in a way that enables adaptation to data and assumed initiated action, 3) color design in the context of best contras, with color-blind users in mind. In addition, the usability (scannability) should be intuitive. Thus, elements related to time widget intervals and click to filter options have to be added. To provide the customizability, the dashboard should be designed to display project indicators tailored to the tasks of a particular project team. Originality/value: New in the paper is an examination of a dashboard digestibility, scannability, and customizability in the area of project indicator visualization. (original abstract)

61%
Purpose: The article presents the results of qualitative research related to answering the question: "How can reporting be supported when there is no access to professional BI tools?". Design/methodology/approach: The answer to this question was set in the context of the BI layers proposed by Todd (todd 2017). This approach allowed one to determine, in each layer, operations performed on data that support reporting. The main research method was the participation observation made in the author's involvement in the project management team. Findings: Supporting reporting in project management when there is no access to professional BI tools needs strong technical competences and great creativity by the project management team in using applications such as spreadsheets or database tools. The most helpful functionalities provided by spreadsheets are text and search functions and the data conversion wizard. The most useful functionality provided by database tools was intelligent calculations made by queries and automatic report design provided by MS Access. Originality/value: The paper presents an examination of the set of operations and IT tools needed in a business analysis made in project management in a situation where there is no access to professional BI tools. Agencje wywiadu gospodarczego. Czym się w rzeczywistości zajmują? Co same rozumieją przez wywiad gospodarczy? Czym jest wywiad? I czym nie jest według badanych? Kto jest klientem? A kto poszukiwanym? I czego się poszukuje? Na początku nie stawiam hipotez, bowiem badanie ma na celu zanurzenie się i zrozumienie mechanizmów działania danej społeczności na zasadzie "czystej karty", a nie weryfikacji założeń badacza.
