Content available remote Konwergencja płodności krajów europejskich
100%
(fragment tekstu)
Introduction: Infertility is a reproductive health issue where the inability to conceive after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse affects about 8 to 12% of couples of reproductive age. Factors such as diet, lifestyle, and exposure to toxins can negatively impact men's reproductive capacity, including semen parameters and gonadal function. The impact of diet on male fertility, including hormone levels and the process of spermatogenesis, is the subject of intense research. Aim of the Study: This study aims to review current scientific research on the impact of diet on male fertility to provide updated knowledge on this topic, essential for preventive and therapeutic actions in this field. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive review of scientific and medical literature was conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The search terms included: impact of diet on male fertility, impact of diet on semen parameters, impact of diet on semen quality, male fertility, diet and male fertility, types of diets and fertility. Conclusion: Diet plays a crucial role in male fertility, affecting semen quality. It is recommended to consume meat in moderation, especially organic, and to increase the intake of fish rich in omega-3 while avoiding contaminants. Regular consumption of fruits, vegetables, and grains improves semen parameters, while limiting sweets, sugary drinks, and alcohol, as well as quitting smoking, is beneficial for reproductive health. Men planning fatherhood should also consider reducing cannabis use. Future research should focus on the impact of individual dietary factors on male fertility.(original abstract)
Szczególne znaczenie w kształtowaniu struktury etnicznej populacji Stanów Zjednoczonych mają imigrantki pochodzenia latynoskiego, a wśród nich kobiety pochodzące z regionu Centralnej i Środkowej Ameryki. The study tries to understand the determinants of fertility in predominately Muslim countries. They have on average higher fertility rates than the western countries. A sample of 33 predominantly Muslim countries is chosen as the target of the study. The dynamic panel data estimation method employed demonstrates that, the socioeconomic conditions are the primary cause of the high fertility rates of the countries used in this study. The study reveals an inverse relationship between economic development and fertility rate. As these countries develop, fertility rates will decline. However, fertility decisions incorporate cultural components that will slow down the transition process. (original abstract)
Artykuł przedstawia analizę płodności i rodności kobiet w wybranych miastach województwa Śląskiego (Bielsko-Biała, Chorzów i Katowice) w latach 1990-2001.
Paper analyses relationship between age at first attempt to conceive and apparent fecundability defined as detection of a pregnancy. The purpose of the analysis is to account for biological consequences of age shifts on fertility schedules in contemporary low fertility societies. Age specific decrease in fecundability might lead to increase in waiting time to pregnancy measured as interval between onset of deliberate attempt to conceive and actual pregnancy. Analysis is based on retrospective measurement of waiting time to pregnancy (WtP) implemented in GGS-PL survey. Analyses reveal significant increase in WtP among women aged 35+ and only a slight increase for those aged 30-35. Due to increase in age at first reproduction we expect that share of couples having prolonged WtP or those remaining childless might increase in the future especially among social groups which are in the avant-garde of fertility postponement. Paper addresses an issue whether increase in age at first attempt to conceive among females might have an effect on likelihood of conception. Since postponement of reproduction seems to be almost universal feature of contemporary developed societies paper aims at measuring safe limits of postponement in which conception will not be endangered by a significant drop in fecundity. Analysis uses data on waiting time to pregnancy (WtP) to measure an impact of reproductive ageing on length of interval between first attempt to conceive and conception. Methodology of measuring WtP has been implemented in Polish GGS survey. Analyses reveal significant increase in WtP among women aged 35+, slight increase among females aged 30-35 and no decrease for younger females. Results suggest that postponement of reproduction beyond age 35 might decrease chances for achieving desired number of children during lifetime and ultimately increase observed proportion of childless females. Paper addresses an issue whether decrease in female fecundity (reproductive senescence) during life cycle might have an influence on realization of fertility intentions. Increasing age at first attempt to conceive might translate into lower than planned number of offspring due to divergence between lifecycle of modern females and changes in fecundity over the life course. We use waiting time to pregnancy (WtP) to account for impact of reproductive ageing on length of interval between first attempt to conceive a child and actual pregnancy. This retrospective methodology reflects definition of sub-fertility and infecundity as number of months with regular unprotected intercourse ending (or not) in pregnancy. Methodology of measuring WtP has been implemented in Polish GGS survey and contains questions about infertility and number of menstrual cycles needed for conception. Analyses reveal significant increase in WtP among women aged 35+, slight increase among females aged 30-35 and no decrease for younger females. Estimates of infertility yields around 6% for females and around 3% for males (as declared by respondents). These results are in line with results of other studies which suggest that postponement of reproduction beyond age of 35 might influence probability of conception (as well as transition to higher parities) and increase chance of remaining childless. Taking into account age patterns of fertility in Poland, reproductive senescence might not have a great impact on realization of fertility intentions on the level of general population. However, due to increase in age at first reproduction we expect that share of couples having problems with conception (prolonged WtP) might increase in the future especially among social groups which are in the avant-garde of fertility postponement.(original abstract)

Content available remote Factors Affecting Fertility - New Evidence from Malaysia
75%
This research paper investigates long and short term determinants of fertility rates in Malaysia based on basic macroeconomic variables for the period 1980-2014 using Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method. The study reveals that over a long term period, all the selected variables (GDP, infant mortality rate, females' education and employment) have had significant and negative impact on total fertility rates. Whilst during the short term period, only the infant mortality rate has had a positive impact. Since population growth is partly determined by fertility rates, efforts to increase population in Malaysia should consider factors that affect those rates. (original abstract)
The idea of "demographic transition" does not belong to one author only. Numerous precursors dealt with that term in population research [Laundry 1945, Thompson 1929, Blaker 1949]. Nowadays, that theory is analyzed, verified, and in most cases, authors refer it to a particular country, society or ethnic group [Kazmer and Konrad 2001, Lesthaeghe and Neels 2001, Kurkiewicz 1998]. The demographic transition deals with changes in the level of reproduction. The transition process starts from the modern society with a high level of fertility and mortality and goes to the industrial society described by a low level of fertility and high mortality. The last twenty-five years of the 20th century showed that a new trend appeared. The changes refer to the societies of highly developed countries. Firstly, birth rates were beneath the replacement level; secondly, death rates declined. The analysis of the new situation let demographers; D.J. van de Kaa [1987] and R. Lesthaeghe [1991] describe and formulate the foundations of a model, which they called the Second Demographic Transition model (the STD model). (fragment of text)

Content available remote Can Fiscal Policy Spur Fertility?
75%
Research background: The decreasing fertility rate is a serious problem for policymakers as it affects the pension system as well as private consumption and savings. It seems reasonable to analyze whether fiscal policy may mitigate the low birthrate problem.Purpose of the article: In this paper we strive to answer the question whether fiscal incentives spur fertility if parents are rational. Methods: A theoretical economic model of utility maximization is applied to analyze the impact of fiscal policy on fertility. The conclusions are based on the analysis of comparative statics simulation calibrated for actual data from Poland.Findings & Value added: The results indicate that a substantial fertility effect can be obtained by raising subsidies for children or general benefits for families. Content available remote Procesy reprodukcji ludności w Europie
75%
(fragment tekstu)
This article presents an analysis of the views and opinions of secondary school students in Kalisz anduniversity students in Poznań in regard to in vitro fertilization and its use by infertile couples. The basis for the analysis is sociological research conducted in the years 2007 and 2011 among 456 secondary school students and 426 university students. (original abstract)

Content available remote Płodność a feminizm
75%
This study analyses and compares the fertility behaviour and childbearing plans of Polish migrant families in Ireland and those of their counterparts - families in Poland. The study has a comparative and explanatory character and applies both quantitative and qualitative methods. The analysis is based on the author's own data collected from an online survey of Polish family units in Ireland in 2014 and compared with secondary data on families in Poland retrieved from the 2011 Gender and Generation Survey (GGS). My research reveals fertility postponement and fewer families with children among migrant families; nonetheless, migrant parents have more children than their counterparts in Poland. The results highlight the significance of socio-economic and institutional contexts. The study also reveals a dichotomisation of fertility strategies within the migrant population, with distinct differences in the number of children, transition age to parenthood, and further fertility intentions between migrants who became parents in Poland and those who did so after the move. The results also provide insights into the childbearing motivations and fertility patterns of recent Polish migrants and contribute to the discussion of migrants' fertility in general.
