W pracy zaprezentowano możliwości osiągania korzystnych zmian mikrostruktury wyrobów ogniotrwałych, wynikające z zastosowania niestandardowej operacji technologicznej, jaką jest nasycanie. Nasycanie glinokrzemianowych materiałów wypalanych lejnymi zawiesinami tlenku glinu powoduje zmiany parametrów mikrostruktury, polegające na redukcji porowatości otwartej, zmniejszeniu mediany rozkładu średnic porów i średniej średnicy porów odpowiednio o 86,6% i 71,1%. Zastosowanie procesu impregnacji umożliwia uzyskanie materiałów glinokrzemianowych o udziale porów o średnicach poniżej 1 μm, na poziomie 42%. Skutkiem zmian mikrostruktury powinien być wzrost odporności korozyjno-erozyjnej tworzyw na działanie agresywnych czynników niszczących. Zaproponowano obszar stosowania ulepszonych materiałów ogniotrwałych. (abstrakt oryginalny)
W artykule przedstawiono komputerowe modelowanie nagniatana powierzchni frezowanej frezem kulistym. Taka metoda frezowania pozostawia ślady, gdzie dominują nierówności wynikające z posuwu wierszowania i średnicy freza. Procesowi nagniatania (obróbce plastycznej powierzchni) towarzyszą zjawiska zachodzące bezpośrednio w strefie kontaktu kulki nagniatającej z powierzchnią frezowaną. Zaprezentowano sposób przygotowania modelu MES i metodykę badań służących ocenie wartości wysokościowych parametrów Struktury Geometrycznej Powierzchni (SGP).
Currently, cast iron remains one of the major modern casting materials in metallurgy and machine-building industry and is sure to take the lead in the future. Chilled cast iron has high hardness and wear resistance due to a large number of carbide phases in its structure. However, low ductility and impact hardness essentially limit its applicability in terms of processing. Hot plastic working, under which the eutectic net crushing is observed, appears to be one of the most effective means of the eutectic alloy products shape and microstructure transformation. Chilled cast iron properties fundamentally improve after hot plastic working: ductility, strength and impact hardness increase by 2-3 times on retention of the high hardness factor. Chilled cast iron ductility increase can be attained when using phase transformations in eutectic cementite under lean alloying with carbide forming elements. The purpose of the paper is to study alloying effect on the chilled cast iron ductility as well as eutectic cementite behavior under hot rolling. In the paper hardening and softening of the structural components in chilled cast iron under hot working have been studied. The deformation texture forming in eutectic cementite under hot rolling has been revealed, which is connected with the dynamic softening and depends on the degree and the nature of its alloying. The mechanism and regularities of the phase transformation effect in cementite on its behavior under plastic deformation and on the alloys ductility in general have been studied. In cementite chromium alloying initiates processes, that can be characterized as the pre-precipitation stage of the new phases, and this way it contributes to the cast iron ductility reduction and embrittles cementite. Carbide transformation, that occurs in eutectic cementite under alloying with vanadium, stimulates softening of the alloy and increases its ductility level. Moreover, the multiple glide planes {130},{011},{112} in cementite have been determined. It has been found out, that in supersaturated cementite vanadium carbides precipitation stimulates the extra glide plane {111} occurrence under hot rolling. The essence of the carbide transformation phenomenon is that under hot working there occurs the lubricating effect at the transition of the metastable iron carbide condition, which is strengthened with vanadium supersaturation and mechanical hardening, to a more stable condition due to precipitation of the proeutectoid constituents on the one hand, and because of the dynamic softening processes on the other hand. At that, the autocatalyticity effect is observed: there is precipitation of carbides with hardening and softening, similar to the processes that arise as a result of the superplastic effect induced by phase transformations. The overall study objection is selection and optimization all available thermodynamic data required for using calculation of phase diagram (CALPHAD) technique within the Fe-C-Cr-Mn-Si-Ti system. Such data collected in the thermodynamic database can be used for predicting the phase constitution states of a given composition for Fe-based hardfacing materials, which often use in energy industry in order to increase the abrasion and impact wear resistance of equipment parts. In order to compare theroretical calculation results with experimental data, four different types of hardfacing were deposited using flux-cored arc welding. Microstructure and chemical composition of deposited layers was investigated using optical and scanning electron microscopy together with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Comparison of experimental and computed results shows that they are in good agreement in meaning of presence of all-important phase equilibrium regions. The developed database can be used for rational selection of hardfacing materials for energy industry equipment and reasonable choice of new alloying systems. (original abstract)
The aim of the research was to verify a new method of measuring the colour of wood. The method was designed to automate wood colour measurement. In the experiments birch wood was used, which was heat treated with saturated water steam. Nikon D3200 camera was used in conjunction with the MATLAB program to implement the method. The assessments were conducted in the colour space of CIE L* a* b*. The measured values confirmed the decrease in lightness from natural to thermally modified wood. The trends of the colour values a* and b* were the same as those reported by the authors who conducted experiments with birch wood. Differences were found in the magnitude of the measured chromatic component a* values. It will be necessary to verify the above facts and determine the reasons for these differences by measuring the colour of other wood species. (original abstract)
In this work was established that serial traditional hardfacing materials based on the Fe-Cr-C system are not effective for improvement of abrasion resistance of elements of equipment for production of bricks, solid fuel briquettes and for restoration of augers, due to the fact that this equipment works at significant specific and cyclic loads. Features of the coarse-grained structure of Fe-Cr-C based coatings leads to intensive abrasive wear. The aim of this study was to increase a durability of that equipment by using of flux cored electrodes with reaction components of Ti, Cr, Mo, B4C and their combinations to provide synthesis, which leads to fine-grained structure of refractory borides and carbides and their solid solutions with increased hardness. Structure of the hardfacing coatings were investigated by method of metallography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (BSD) mode and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Temperature dependences of equilibrium phase amount of the hardfacing materials were calculated by the CALPHAD technique, using JMatPro software. It was investigated that the offered materials are characterized by higher wear resistance at high specific and cyclic loads in comparison with serial production high-chromium hardfacing materials (Lastek, ESAB, Paton IEW). It was established that the abrasion wear resistance at high specific and cyclic loads depends mostly of formation of the structure of hardfacing material, and not the hardness. Also, using of powders of pure metals and their combination as reaction mixture for FCAW leads to fine structure which contains of refractory borides and carbides and their solid solutions.

Material properties of heterogeneous nanomaterials modelled by effective medium approximation (EMA) demand specific approaches when metallic inclusions in a host medium are exposed to external magnetic field. Resulting induced anisotropy of permittivity is manifested itself by a specific form of polarizability tensor. In presented work, this one is applied in the so called "strong-couple-dipole" (SCD) method, where the electromagnetic Green tensor is of key importance. The results are oriented to the magneto-plasmonic sensor element design for the use in biology or chemistry. (original abstract)
The increase in the quality requirements for the pipes and the increasing needs to reduce production costs, while increasing the efficiency of the process in market of hot rolled pipes are observed. One of the cost reduction factors is the reduction of the number of defects by early detection and, if possible, the removal of non-conformities. Incompatibility is an error that can be removed in accordance with the performance standard that does not cause defects (Norma API). The defect is imperfection that is so important that it is the basis for the removal of the product or its part based on the criteria set out in the performance standards. In pipe manufacturing processes, defects and batch incompatibilities can be distinguished, which arise in the steelworks during metal solidification and roll forming in the course of metal processing. The defect may also arise as a result of removing steel material or result from rolling processes defects. The paper presents the analysis of the process of quality control of pipes manufactured using the pilgrim method on the basis of real process data. The analysis were involved 1070 pieces of ingots from 11 different melts for rolling pipes. At various stages of production, discrepancies and defects were revealed, which were caused by metallurgical or technological defects associated with rolling pipes. The total amount of discrepancies and defects eliminated 168 pieces of finished pipes. The aim of the work is to show that by means of appropriately selected methods of eliminating imperfections, it is possible to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process. Concrete structures affected for a long time by flowing liquids are exposed to gradual erosion in surface layers caused by a combination of several degradation processes: abrasion, cavitation and chemical or bacterial impacts. Due to the complex phenomena and difficult-todefine initial and boundary conditions, the whole process cannot be easily simulated using the conventional computing tools. Laboratory experimental research is thus the most appropriate approach for the investigation of a suitable composition of concrete resistant to the flowing liquids. However, the methods used are often very time consuming and last even several years. High-speed water flows can be elegantly used for the acceleration of the mechanical simulation of a real situation. Several experiments on the effects of the high-speed water flows on concrete surfaces have been carried out. Using the X-Ray CT methods, subsurface structures of concretes exposed to the accelerated mechanical simulation of the erosion wear caused by fast flowing liquids were investigated and presented in the article. It has been shown that the simulation does not cause initiation of new fractures or cracks in the original concrete structure. The pure water flow mainly removes the hardened cement paste and reveals the aggregate grains. The water flow with abrasive particles disintegrates in greater depths and washes out entire aggregate grains, eventually amputates them and finally smoothens entire surface. (original abstract)
One of the variable parameters in steel cord twisting technologies is the steel cord tension before final reel. Changing this parameter is used to produce steel cord with high quality of straightness. Steel cord straightness is the most important technological parameter after tensile strength. It is simple to change the value of steel cord tension with special mechanisms or devices in composition of cable machines and twisting machines. It is very important to know the measures of tension setting. Low tension causes bad quality of steel cord and defects. High tension may brake steel cord during the twisting and lapping. Also high tension may change the mechanical properties of steel wire in the steel cord construction. The influence of steel cord tension in the range from 9 N to 30 N on active equivalent stresses in wire cross section and macro displacements of wire contact points in steel cord construction was shown. Effect of steel cord tension during the lapping on steel cord straightness after lapping was shown. In this research the optimal tension for producing steel cord 2x0.30HT was defined with numerical simulation, finite element analysis and criteria method. The optimal value of tension for other steel cord constructions will change, because of number of wires and its hardness. (original abstract)
The paper presents the problem of quality assurance of the laser cutting process of wood and wood-like materials and the selection of optimal processing conditions with respect to the required evaluation criteria. An experiment conducted to identify processing difficulties and potential causes of defects is described. Samples of three materials: pine wood, hardwood plywood and mixed wood HDF with a thickness of 4 mm were cut with a CO2 laser and visually inspected and the width of the slit was measured. It was found that there was a relationship between the laser operating parameters and the obtained slit width. The higher the cutting speed, the narrower the slit. The obtained numerical results allowed to formulate technological guidelines on the selection of laser parameters depending on the material. In turn, based on the visual inspection, defects depending on the material properties were identified. An example of a non-conformity identification manual was developed, which includes illustrations to enable comparative analysis in production. It was found that in the studied process, different criteria can be adopted to qualify a product as compliant or non-compliant. A dilemma may then arise as to which criterion is more important. Therefore, a quality evaluation criteria verification sheet was proposed. Furthermore, due to the fact that the success of the laser cutting process is also dependent on other factors, a list of risks to the process was made. (original abstract)
