Content available remote Imigranci w Polsce i wyzwania integracyjne
100%
Oceny dokonano w oparciu o wywiady przeprowadzone z 200 obywatelami Ukrainy przybyłymi do czterech północno-wschodnich województw Polski, stanowiących jednocześnie część wschodniej granicy Unii Europejskiej.
W artykule, w oparciu o dane źródłowe, dokonano charakterystyki populacji imigranckiej w Stanach Zjednoczonych i zaprezentowano ją na tle populacji obywateli USA z urodzenia.
Szczególne znaczenie w kształtowaniu struktury etnicznej populacji Stanów Zjednoczonych mają imigrantki pochodzenia latynoskiego, a wśród nich kobiety pochodzące z regionu Centralnej i Środkowej Ameryki. In the era of migration, cities play an important role in integrating immigrants and promoting social cohesion. Sometimes they create and implement integration policies different from these at a national level. The state-run civic integration programs question the thesis of the growing role of cities as these programs have resulted in centralizing integration policies and reducing their role. In recent years, large European cities have been implementing a cultural diversity management model referred to as "intercultural integration". They have also adopted mainstream policies targeted at the entire population. In terms of immigrant integration policy Polish large cities have recently been following a pattern set by their Western European counterparts. This results from the availability of European funds and trends towards cultural diversity rather than challenges.(original abstract)

Content available remote The Poles in Norway - We Wanted Workers but People Arrived
100%
The text discuses importance of migration in contemporary world and the transformation of the migration as a process. The author provides theoretical background, describes the reasons for migration and its character as well as problems that source countries and the countries receiving immigration have to face. Moreover, black economy related to the migration, as human tra fficking, is also analyzed as well as the problems migration poses for political systems of liberal nation states. The text focuses on the immigration from Muslim countries, its characteristics and consequences for particular states and the EU as a whole.(original abstract)

Content available remote Nowa imigracja w północno-wschodniej części Pensylwanii. Szanse i zagrożenia
100%
W artykule przeanalizowano szanse i zagrożenia wynikające z imigracji w oparciu o doświadczenia z północno-wschodniej części Pensylwanii.

Content available remote The Migration Transition in Poland
76%
In the period 1950-2020, international migration in Europe changed significantly. One of the most characteristic features was the change in net migration from negative to positive. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, Poland belonged to the minority of countries in this respect - that is, it experienced strong emigration but only minor immigration. However, migration in Poland has also been changing. In the second decade of this century, the outflow of people has weakened, the inflow of migrants has increased and the migration balance has become positive. I analyse these phenomena from the theoretical perspective of the migration transition that was experienced in the second half of the twentieth century by most countries in Western, Northern and Southern Europe. I attempt to answer the question of whether the latest migration phenomena prove that this transition is also occurring in Poland. In conclusion, I argue that the available to-date evidence provides an affirmative answer to this question. (original abstract)
The problem of discrimination and unequal treatment of women from culturally diverse backgrounds affects countries such as the Netherlands. The centuries of tolerance and openness to an "alien" seem to be ending. This is evidenced by numerous reports and scientific studies, statements from specialists, and experts on the issues of immigrant integration. Increasingly, feeling marginalised and deprived of development opportunities, immigrant or refugee women come to the fore. Some of them (those remaining in isolation) are represented by aid organisations, i.e. foundations, associations, volunteer groups, and the municipalities themselves. This article covers the existing issue of the increasing number of refugees and immigrants in the Netherlands, especially refugee and immigrant women towards whom, according to specialists, integration policy should be redefined.(original abstract)
Europe is facing a new challenge - namely that of migration, and the negative attitudes stemming from the constant inflow of immigrants. Although France has historic experience with social inclusion and immigration issues, even there, the 2014 regional elections indicated mistrust towards immigrants. Present paper endeavors to analyze the phenomenon from economic, social, political and cultural perspectives based on the data provided by the European Social Survey focusing on the case of France. Research results indicated that trust is an important factor when it comes to attitudes towards immigrants. On the one hand, those, who have lower level of trust in national institutions, such as the police are more afraid of immigrants and of the threats they might pose. On the other hand, mistrust rooted in dissimilarity - like difference in religions - is also significant based on the data displayed in the article.(original abstract)
This article considers upward mobility of UK Polish migrant workers by introducing a Bourdieusian habitus perspective. Drawing mainly on the interview data it was inquired whether the intelligentsia habitus understood as an example of embodied or learned "social expectations" concerning the position in the social hierarchy provides Polish migrants the motivational scripts for learning and innovating in the labour market. It was found that the intelligentsia habitus can legitimize successful jobs seeking strategies of some respondents. However, this paper also notes that a significant number of analysed respondents were unable to mobilize cultural capital resources and remained in a vicious circle of long hours of monotonous factory work that has created an additional constraint complicating their learning capabilities. Subject and purpose of work: This article analyzes the factors depicted in the literature as essential for the emergence of far-right parties and assesses the importance of unemployment, immigration and political establishments in the failures of the far-right wing parties in Sweden and Finland in early 2000s. Materials and methods: Multi-methods approach is used in this study including case studies and a novel technique based on Boolean algebra. Results: The findings of this paper lead to the conclusion that the correlation between unemployment rates and the electoral strength of far-right parties is weak and does not support simplistic thesis such as high unemployment leads to extremism. Moreover, despite objectively favorable conditions in terms of high immigration rates, the presence of non-European immigrants in a country does not in itself explain the emergence of far-right parties. Conclusions: The study points to the importance of political factors such as the differences between the mainstream parties and tackling the immigration issue by the Liberal Party in Sweden and the wide ideological span of the coalition government and the role of Finland's special relationship with the USSR that militated against the emergence of far-right parties in these countries. Immigration into Europe has been increasing rapidly in recent years, and consequently the European Union is intensifying efforts to create an effective and safe migration policy. In this context, European institutions play a crucial role in setting strategic instruments for migration policy, and the adaptation and integration process of immigrants is one of these instruments. For this purpose, EU countries are implementing various human capital outlays, e.g. on public education and healthcare. This study aimed to empirically analyse the impact of immigration on this expenditure. Panel data analysis was carried out with the data between 1995 and 2017 for 16 European countries. The results support the argument that immigration may have reduced the expenditure that immigrants benefit more from, such as education and social expenditure, while it does not reduce the expenditure that immigrants benefit less from such as healthcare(original abstract)
Population migration activity in the Carpathian region of Ukraine is currently high in intensity and scale compared to the national average. This situation is caused by subjective factors (lower living standards and quality of life, employment problems, escalation of armed conflict in the east) and objective factors (globalization and increasing population mobility, development of transnational corporations, digitalization of the economy, simplification of border-crossing procedures). The aim of the research is to model and visualize the impact of population migration on the social and economic development of the Carpathian region of Ukraine and to determine an optimal value and critical range of external migration for the region. Based on the modelling, assuming that socio-economic development of the Carpathian region corresponds to the level of integral coefficient for Poland in 2018 (calculated using a multiplicative approach), the acceptable level of external migration was determined. It is 0.850 for Lviv region (actual migration level was 1.479 in 2018); 0.653 for Chernivtsi region (0.695); and 1.488 for Zakarpattya region (2.149). The critical range of the intensity of external population migration is 0.723-1.264 for Lviv region, 0.499-0.578 for Chernivtsi region, 0.006-0.008 for IvanoFrankivsk region, and 0.479-0.769 for Zakarpattya region.(original abstract)
This article presents selected results from a survey conducted in 2014 and 2015 in the Province of Opole, among 263 entrepreneurs representing companies from different sectors which varied due to the number of employees and the labour market segment. Organisations with experience in employing a foreign workforce as well as those who had not previously employed foreigners were asked about their willingness to engage a foreign workforce. The analysis was made taking into account the labour market segment. Majority of respondents claimed that the country of origin of the foreign workforce is irrelevant. Such attitude was more frequent among entrepreneurs with experience in hiring foreigners than among those who have not yet taken on foreign labour. Entrepreneurs, especially those employing foreigners during the study, tended to view foreigners as more available and more willing to work overtime, hence 'better' then Polish employees. Interestingly, among respondents representing the secondary labour market, the opinion that foreigners are 'better' employees was more common than in the group representing the primary labour market.(original abstract)

Content available remote The Evaluation of the System of Financing the Integration Courses in Germany
76%
Persons intending to live in Germany should have a certain knowledge of the German language and about the country in general. Foreigners may acquire the necessary skills and knowledge by participating in integration courses. They are financed by the state as well as by the immigrants themselves. The aim of the article is to evaluate the system of financing such courses that was adopted in Germany. As part of the justification for selecting this particular topic it is worth mentioning that there are no analyses on this subject available in the source literature. Furthermore, also the geopolitical situation in the world and the influx of refugees in Europe (including Germany) that results from it serve to prove just how current and important with regard to cost economics the issue of financing immigrant integration actually is. The analysis has been carried out on the basis of German legal acts and the financial data obtained from the Federal Statistical Office and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. The article covers the period 2017-2018 and is based on the method of document analysis. (original abstract)
